This may sound surprising, but it does not really matter if somebody was elected president. One can come up with a number of strong labels: ridiculous, crazy, goulash, bizarre. All these words actually hold true, but they should not conceal the fact that this election exposed Czech politics stark naked. It is not a nice sight, but it is important.

Working machine
In particular, the 12 hours on Friday and the unexpected encore on Saturday offered a fundamental excursion into Czech politics at the Prague Castle. Nobody was elected at the weekend, which is an unexpected success for Jan Švejnar. The official part, taking place in front of cameras, was full of procedural proposals, breaks, comments, additions and remarks. That is, things the public does not have to know about, but the way the politicians indulged in them was fascinating. This was due to the presence of the cameras that were broadcasting the whole thing. The public must have been left with a pretty depressing impression.
But attaching the „farce“ label should not be the end. As lawmakers pushed through an open ballot, we could peep into the insides of politics. Such moments are unique, and, as we know, the sight of guts is never pleasant.
At least, the election cast a light on the position of the president, which has so far created the impression that the president stands somewhat…
